Listen, I spent two freaking days finishing my 2000 word Lil Yachty appraisal, so the next couple of entries are going to be a little shorter than usual
Boi Makes Pleasantly Big Bang
Ah, Big Boi: what can you say about him that hasn’t already been said?
You could say quite a lot, actually: you could say he was part pf the water polo team that won bronze in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics; you could say that he’s terrified of performing squats because he’s convinced the movement will force him to pass wind and he’d just die from the embarrassment; you could say that the only reason bananas no longer grow in Atlanta is because Bog Boi ate them all; you could say that he spells Ludacris’s name as ‘Ludicrous’ because he’s vehemently against using hip hop as an excuse to propagate incorrect spelling; there are loads of things that haven’t been said about Andre Patton before.
I mean, I guess it’d be more difficult to say things that weren’t lies, but still…
He remains one of the greatest (and bizarrely underrated) rappers working today, both in technique and in the quality of the backing he chooses. He is also- and this is very important for a nerdy white guy such as myself who was raised on Tesco standard indie music- he has always respected the importance of a good frickin’ chorus!!
‘BOOMIVERSE’ (capitalisation is always appreciated +1) isn’t in the same league as his incredible 2010 debut ‘Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty’ (love that title +1), but far, far better than the overlong and muddled 2012 follow up ‘Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumours’. The consistent quality of its 12 songs are proof of the benefits of more stringent editing, and Big Boi manages to combine incisive social commentary with more wistful silliness far better than most.
Yeah, just realised I spelled that wrong…
Lastly, All Night: do you think that Big Boi might have possibly heard Cash Machine by D.R.A.M (kayfabe) last year?

OK, so we have all accepted by now that Big Boi is some sort of higher deity, but I’m more interested in that cubic plant which he seems to be more concerned with. What exactly is that planet, Mr.Boi, and where in the wider boomiverse is it? What aren’t you telling us??
