Gettin’ horny now!
You and me baby ain’t nothin’ but mammals, so let’s do it like they do on the Discovery Channel! Do it again now!
Oh, ‘The Bad Fire‘? My mistake. That does kind of ruin the 4’000 word thesis I was about to write about The Bloodhound Gang’s continued importance in 2020’s post-rock, so I guess I’ll have to take another angle. In 2025 though, what does “Do it like they do on the Discovery Channel” mean to the average young adult? Do they assume that they’re going to have a Max Mosley style Nazi orgy, or that they’re simply going to fuck like sharks? What else is there on the Discovery Channel??
Motherfucking Mogwai though, yeah?? Isn’t it?? You get me??
Absolute victims of their own continued brilliance. If Mogwai would release a duff album every now and then (I don’t believe they’ve ever released a proper record I’d consider even less than ‘very good’) then maybe we’d be more grateful for incredible records like ‘The Bad Touch Fire’. If they’d followed up 2021 equally incredible ‘As the Love Continues‘ with one or two absolute stinkers, we’d be overwhelmed with gratitude for such an outstanding piece of work. “An Incredible Return to Form!”, we’d all be saying, or “Mogwai Are Back! Back! Back, Baby!”, or maybe “Mog-WHY Wasn’t the Last Album This Good?!” if we were more into puns, or maybe “Pro-Israel Lobby Groups Spent £133,000 Flying MPs Out of the Country Amid Gaza Genocide“. That last one would probably be the main headline, but the Mogwai album would get a great review in the Arts section..
But noooooooooooooooooooooooo, just another consistently brilliant album to add to the impeachable catalogue. Boooooriiiiing! The band’s sensibilities these days are a lot less concerned with ear-devouring volume and caustic, feature length guitar blitzkrieg, and more… Well, still ear-devouring volume and guitar blitzkrieg, but they’re a lot more melodically chilled these days and their songs are usually over before the ten minute mark.
Absolute national treasures. The greatest Scottish band of all time. A discography of absurdly consistent high quality.
Boooooriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!

The user reviews only have it at 71, so they’re obviously all fucking idiots.

“Zhè néng shǐ bì tīng yě wúdíle”, or “This makes even the most discerning listener invincible.”. Sorry, what?? That sounds like more than a 25/100, tt_, I have to say
